Library News — by Gail Perrizo

For its 50th Anniversary, Plum Creek Library System is putting on a BINGO challenge that is open to any patron from the 26 member libraries. The goal is to visit as many libraries as possible! Get your Minneota bingo card at Minneota Public Library and start your Library journey. You will get to visit many beautiful libraries in southwest Minnesota. I may be biased, but I think Minneota’s library tops the list in terms of “beauty” and “uniqueness.”

Plum Creek Library System has provided all its libraries with some amazing things. Do you know all that is available at the library or for use with a library card? Here’s a list:

  • Delivery system that brings books to your library twice a week.
  • A digital card catalog on each library’s web page that enables you to search for books in all 26 libraries, and place holds on books that will be delivered for you.
  • Access to free e-books and audio books (Libby) and other digital resources including Creativebug, Novelist, MNLink, ELM (eLibraryMN), AskMN, Minnesota Digital Library, EBooks Minnesota, MN Writes MN Reads, Project Gutenburg, and Scholastic’s Bookflix, Scienceflix, True Flix, Scholastic Teachables, and Watch and Learn Library. Most on-line art classes like those from Creativebug, and audio book loans such as from Audible, charge a monthly subscription fee, but you can get this all if this free with your library card.
  • Each PCLS library can loan quality audio and video equipment to any patron wanting to record an event.
  • Minneota Library has two HP Chromebooks and two Mobile Beacon Hotspots available to check out.
  • PCLS has a new Story Kit library. Story Kits contain many books, games, and learning activities — all in one bag — that can be borrowed. It is a rotating collection, but each kit can be put on hold and whichever library has it will send it on for your use, just like books.

Keep watching for news of the events of our summer reading program. “Bee A Reader” kicks off on May 29. Sign up on that day! We will be making wild bee houses at the library that day. We also have programs by the Prairie Ecology Bus, a local beekeeper, and a storyteller. These programs will be open to all ages.
